The suction cups, and their condition

A shelf that only hooks over the glass swings every time the door moves, and knocks. Three cups pressed against the panel hold it still.

They need a clean, smooth, dry surface to set properly, and on a soapy panel they will need re-pressing every so often. That is how suction cups work everywhere, and the same condition applies to the mats in this hub.

The open bottom

It drains. A solid-based caddy holds a centimetre of soapy water and grows a ring; this one does not.
