The best shower systems and columns for 2026

A shower column is a head, a hand shower, a riser and usually a mixer sold as one part, and it is bought to replace an existing installation — which is why it is a fitting problem before it is a taste problem. The system connects at the same 150 mm centres as a bar mixer in most of Europe, and the ones that do not say so. Overall height then has to work in your room: a fixed column that is too tall meets the ceiling, and one that is too short puts the head at your chin. Many are adjustable over 15 to 30 cm, and that range is the specification to read. The head itself is sold on size, and a big head needs flow to fill it: a 30 cm head on a weak supply drips rather than rains, which is why the stated minimum pressure is not a footnote. We compare centre distance, overall and adjustable height, head size, number of outlets, stated minimum operating pressure, and finish.

The models we recommend

  1. Görbach stainless shower column, 20 × 20 cm head, no mixer

    Shower column · 92 cm fixed rail · 20 × 20 cm head · brackets 12–82 cm · 8 and 14 l/min at 3 bar · NO mixer supplied

A black shower column that publishes both its flow rates with the pressure behind them, and states in its first line that no mixer is included.

Best for: A shower that already has a working mixer, where the existing wall holes are an awkward distance apart.

  2. Rainsworth chrome shower column, 25 cm round head, brass diverter, no mixer

Shower column · rail 800–1080 mm · 25 cm round head · brass diverter valve · 5-year replacement stated · NO mixer supplied

A chrome column with a brass diverter valve and a five-year free-replacement statement — and no flow figure and no pressure anywhere in the listing.

Best for: A shower with an existing mixer, where a button changeover and a brass valve matter more than a published flow.

  3. JOHO 304 stainless shower column, 30 × 30 cm head, no mixer

    Shower column · rail 74–114 cm · 30 × 30 cm head · brackets 66–105 cm · 12 and 16 l/min at 3 bar · NO mixer supplied

The largest rain head in this hub at 30 × 30 cm, on an adjustable rail, with both flow rates published at 3 bar — and, again, no mixer in the box.

Best for: A large shower enclosure on good mains pressure, where the existing wall holes are at least 66 cm apart.

  4. Schütte MADURA shower column WITH thermostat, 38 °C detent

    Shower column · thermostat INCLUDED · 38 °C detent · height-adjustable bracket for existing holes · 5-year warranty · complete fixing set

The first column on this page that arrives complete: a thermostatic mixer included, a 38 °C detent, and a bracket that reuses existing holes.

Best for: A complete shower replacement in one parcel, where the mixer is part of the job and the maker should be reachable.

    ≈ £144 / 111 €

  5. HOMELODY shower column with thermostat, 22 × 22 cm head, rail 855–1105 mm

Shower column · thermostat included · rail 855–1105 mm, adjustable after fitting · 22 × 22 cm head (9 in) · brass mixer body

A complete thermostatic column whose rail adjusts even after it is fixed to the wall — the one feature on this page that forgives a drilling mistake.

Best for: A retiled shower where the wall holes are already drilled and the head height still has to be got right.
