Read this first

This is not a wall angle valve.

It is a straight in-line shut-off with G 1/2 threads at both ends, designed to go between a shower hose and a shower head. It will not fit under a basin, and the three other valves in this hub are the ones that will.

It is filed here because it does the same job — isolating water at a fitting — and because somebody searching for a shut-off valve should find it and immediately know which kind it is.

What it is genuinely good for

Stopping the water at the head without touching the mixer.

Soaping up. Shaving legs. Washing a dog or a child. Anything where the water should be off for thirty seconds and come back at exactly the temperature it was — which is what happens when you turn the mixer off and on again, and what does not.

The cartridge, with a figure

A ceramic cartridge stated at 200 000 switching cycles.

Twice a day for years. It is a manufacturer’s own durability figure and it is a number, which is more than the rest of this hub offers on any moving part.

What it costs you

Two more joints in the shower hose. A valve in-line means a connection at each end, each with a washer, each a place that can weep. Fit it with the supplied PTFE tape and check it after a week.
