What 15 000 closes means

The maker states the soft-close damper is tested to 15 000 cycles in its own quality control. At a dozen closes a day that is about three years of use in a test rig — a manufacturer’s internal figure rather than an independent one, and more than any competitor here states.

The material trade-off

MDF is a wood board under a coating. It is warm to sit on and heavy in a good way.

It is also the one seat here with a terminal failure mode: chip the coating at a hinge, or scrub it with something abrasive, and water reaches the board. Duroplast seats simply do not do this.

What is missing

Quick-release. The seat cannot be lifted off, so the porcelain around the hinge bolts stays where the cloth does not reach.

Is a wooden seat worse than duroplast?

Different. It is warmer to sit on and heavier in the hand, and it looks like wood because it is. What it cannot survive is water getting past the coating — a chip at a hinge or a scrub with something abrasive, and the board swells. Duroplast has no such failure mode.
