A bathroom mirror is useless for ten minutes after a shower, which is exactly when it is wanted. A heating film behind the glass keeps the surface above the dew point and the mirror stays clear.

That is a manufacturer talking down its own feature, and it is correct: nobody should buy this expecting to replace a ceiling light.

A heating film behind the glass warms the surface a little above room temperature, so condensation does not form on it. It is not instant and it is not magic — it is a low-power heater. On this mirror it is on its own button, so it can be run without the light.
It is bonded to the back of the glass and holds the pieces together if the mirror is broken, in the same way a car windscreen behaves. On a wall above a hard floor that is a meaningful difference.
