What the maker puts in writing
- “Sleek and elegant design show European inspired modern contemporary classic design. The 16 x 12 inch white sink can be widely used in any bathroom or powder room”
- “Crafted from high-quality ceramic. With a smooth and polished surface, resistant to scratches and impact and will not fade over time”
- “The countertop installation method makes it easier to Install. Allows you to install your vessel sink without replacing the entire vanity. With no faucet hole, no overflow”
- “Non-porous surface and softly rounded corners to prevent water and dust accumulation”
- “External size: 15.94(L)x12(W)x5.12(H) inch. Standard 1.75” drain opening, compatible with pop-up drain without overflow. Please notice that: faucet and sink drain are not included in the package”
Six words that nobody else prints
“With no faucet hole, no overflow.”
That is the whole shopping list for a vessel sink, and five of the six vessel sinks on this shelf leave it out.
No faucet hole means the faucet cannot go in the sink. It goes into the counter behind it — which means drilling the counter — or onto the wall above it, which means a wall-mounted faucet and pipework in the wall. Either way it is a decision to make before the sink arrives.
No overflow means the drain must be a solid, non-slotted pop-up. A slotted one, made for a sink that has an overflow, will pour water out through its own slots into the cabinet.
And then the matching figure: standard 1.75” drain opening, compatible with pop-up drain without overflow.
Three decisions settled in two bullets. It is the best page on this shelf.
And the argument for vessel sinks, made only here
Allows you to install your vessel sink without replacing the entire vanity.
This is the real reason the product exists and nobody else on this shelf says it.
An undermount or drop-in sink sits in a cut-out in the counter. Replace it and the new one has to match that cut-out exactly, or the counter goes too.
A vessel sink sits on top of a flat surface over a single drain hole. So a sound but dated vanity gets a new sink for fifty-eight dollars and an afternoon.
The cost of that, which no listing here mentions
A vessel sink adds its own height to the counter.
This bowl is 5.12 inches tall — the second tallest on the shelf. On a standard 34 inch vanity, the rim ends up near 39 inches, which is above a kitchen countertop and high enough that washing a face means lifting your elbows.
If you are keeping the counter, the shallow bowls here are the ones to look at: the J-FAMILY at 4.41 inches, or the OCEALAGOON at 4-5/8.
If you are building the counter, drop it to 30 or 32 inches and any of these will sit right.
Against its twin on the same shelf
Kichae — 16 x 12 in — $57.99 — 9,525 g
DeerValley — 15.94 x 12 in — $58.98 — 8,196 g
A dollar dearer and sixteen per cent lighter. On fired ceramic, mass is wall thickness, and a thicker sink chips less readily at the rim.
So: Kichae is the better object, DeerValley the better page.
If you have fitted a vessel sink before and know what else to order, buy the Kichae. If this is your first one, the six words in DeerValley’s third bullet will save you a wasted purchase, which is worth more than a dollar.
Rounded corners, with a reason attached
Softly rounded corners to prevent water and dust accumulation.
Which is the honest reason rather than a styling one: a square internal corner in a sink holds a film of soap and water that a cloth does not reach, and that is where the gray line appears.
What is not published
No firing temperature, where J-FAMILY publishes above 2,336 °F (1280 °C) and NATURFLAIR 2336 °F — the figure that governs how much water the body absorbs.
No interior bowl dimensions, so the external 15.94 x 12 inches does not tell you how much bowl there is.
No warranty, which is true of all eight listings on this shelf.
