What the maker puts in writing
- “Round Chess Piece Shape: 400 x150 mm (15.7 × 5.91 in). The standard drain is 45mm (1.77 in). the round chess piece design and pure hand-carved craft will make the bathroom environment more beautiful and natural. Handmade, there may be slight differences in the pattern and color of each product”
- “The inner surface is matte black, and the outer surface is coffee-colored and hand-carved texture, creating an unusual visual effect”
- “The inner surface of the sink is smooth and porous, and the outer surface texture is natural. It is fired at 2336 degrees Fahrenheit. the glaze has a very low water absorption rate”
- “Made of high-quality ceramics and specially designed for impact resistance”
- “Packed with strong 5-layer corrugated cardboard, with thickened foam on 6 sides… please check the sink before installation to make sure that it is not cracked or broken during transportation”
The only sink here that is not a white bowl
Most of the eight listings on this shelf are glossy white ceramic. This is matte black inside, coffee-colored and hand-carved outside, in a round shape the maker calls a chess piece.
And it is the only handmade one, with the disclosure that goes with that: there may be slight differences in the pattern and color of each product.
That is honest rather than evasive. A carved surface made by hand varies — and two of these ordered for a double vanity would not match.
If the sink is meant to be the thing you look at in the room, nothing else on this shelf competes. The listing’s claim that it is “a real work of art” is overblown; its claim that it will be “a wonderful topic” is probably accurate.
Twelve hundred and eighty degrees
Fired at 2336 degrees Fahrenheit.
Which is 2336 °F (1280 °C) — the sanitary porcelain range, and the same figure the J-FAMILY on this shelf publishes in Celsius.
Those two are the only sinks here that publish a firing temperature, and it is the number that decides how much water the ceramic body absorbs. At 2336 °F (1280 °C) the body partly vitrifies; earthenware fired at 2012 °F (1100 °C) stays porous, and a chip in the glaze then lets water in.
And then the sentence that contradicts itself
The inner surface of the sink is smooth and porous… the glaze has a very low water absorption rate.
One sentence, two opposite claims about the same surface.
The likeliest explanation is a slip for non-porous, which is what every other listing on this shelf says of its glaze.
But it should not be waved away, because there is a real effect underneath it. A matte glaze is less smooth at a microscopic level than a gloss glaze, and holds limescale, soap film and tea-colored deposits more readily. Matte black ware is well known for showing water marks.
And this sink’s interior is matte black.
So whichever way the word was intended, the practical conclusion is the same: this bowl will show scale and water marks sooner than a gloss white one, and it wants wiping dry after use. For a sink bought as an object, that is a reasonable bargain. It is worth knowing before the first week of limescale.
Five point nine inches, which is the tallest here
A vessel sink adds its height to the counter, and this adds more than any other sink on this shelf.
A 34 inch vanity plus 5.9 inches puts the rim near forty inches — well above a kitchen countertop.
Not one of the eight listings mentions this. Put this sink on a low counter: 30 inches, or 28 if the room allows, so the finished rim lands near 36. On a standard vanity it will be uncomfortable, and the shape — tall, round, chess-piece — is exactly the kind that looks wrong tipped forward on too high a surface.
Forty-five millimeters
The only drain size on this shelf published in metric, and it converts to 1.77 inches — two hundredths from the 1.75 inch American standard the other listings quote, which a rubber gasket absorbs.
So a standard 1-3/4 in pop-up drain will seat in it.
What NATURFLAIR does not say, and three listings here do, is that the drain must be solid and non-slotted, because this sink has no overflow. Buy the non-overflow drain. There is no faucet hole either — the faucet goes into the counter behind the sink, or on the wall.
The best sentence on the shelf
Please check the sink before installation to make sure that it is not cracked or broken during transportation.
Four of the eight listings here lead with their packaging, and NATURFLAIR has the thickest — five-layer board, foam on six sides.
Only this one tells you what to do with it. Unpack and inspect before the silicone goes down, because a hairline crack found afterwards is a sink you own and cannot return.
Apply that to every sink on this shelf.
