Kohler Willamette 4 in centerset faucet review

A two-handle 4-inch centerset bathroom faucet from Kohler at 1.5 gpm, with ceramic disk valves, a drain and its tailpiece in the box.

What the listing puts in writing

  • A 4 in centerset, two lever handles in ceramic, for a three-hole sink
  • 1.5 gpm, laminar flow controls, and a water-saving claim of up to 30% against traditional faucets
  • Spout reach 5.32 in, spout height 5.22 in, maximum deck thickness 1.625 in, 1/2 in connections
  • Ceramic disk valves stated to exceed industry longevity standards
  • Drain and 1-1/4 in tailpiece included; ADA compliant

The four numbers that decide whether it fits

A bathroom faucet is chosen on its hole pattern first. This one needs three holes on 4-inch centers, the most common layout on older American vanity sinks.

Then the spout. 5.32 inches of reach puts the water over the middle of an ordinary drop-in bowl; 5.22 inches of height leaves room to rinse hands, not to fill a bucket.

And the counter. Kohler gives a maximum deck thickness of 1.625 inches. Most listings say nothing about it, and it is the figure that rules a faucet out on a thick stone top.

Two valves, not one cartridge

Each handle opens its own ceramic disk valve. You mix the temperature yourself, and when one side starts to drip, it is one valve to replace, not the whole faucet.

What the price buys

The drain comes in the box with its 1-1/4 inch tailpiece, in the matching finish. On a faucet at this price, that is the part people usually find they still need on the day of the job.

What is not stated

The body metal. The listing says premium metal construction and stops there; brass is not named.

The warranty. No term appears on the Amazon.com page, where the Pfister faucets on this shelf state a limited lifetime warranty.

The retailer line. The description still reads Available exclusively at The Home Depot, copied from another store’s page. It is sold on Amazon.com all the same.

Strengths, and the catches

Strengths

  • Publishes the four numbers that decide fit: 4 in centers, 5.32 in reach, 5.22 in height and a 1.625 in maximum deck thickness
  • Two separate ceramic disk valves, so a worn side can be serviced without replacing the faucet
  • Drain and 1-1/4 in tailpiece included, which is the second purchase most faucets leave you to make

Compromises

  • 1.5 gpm, where the single-handle faucets on this shelf are 1.2 gpm WaterSense models
  • The body metal is not named, only described as premium metal
  • No warranty term on the Amazon.com listing, and the description still says the faucet is sold exclusively at The Home Depot

The questions we get

Will it fit my sink?

If your sink has three holes and the two outer ones are 4 inches apart, center to center, yes: that is what centerset means. Measure between the centers of the outer holes before ordering. An 8-inch spread needs a widespread faucet such as the Pfister Courant on this shelf, and a single hole needs a one-hole faucet or one supplied with a deckplate. The listing also gives a maximum deck thickness of 1.625 inches, which matters on stone counters.

Is 1.5 gpm a lot?

The federal maximum for a bathroom faucet is 2.2 gpm at 60 psi, and EPA WaterSense bathroom faucets are 1.5 gpm or less. This one sits at the WaterSense ceiling. The Moen and Pfister single-handle faucets here are 1.2 gpm. On a hand sink the difference is felt mainly when filling a basin.

Why two handles?

Each handle opens its own valve, hot on one side and cold on the other, so you mix by hand. It is the traditional American arrangement on 4-inch sinks, and it means a dripping side is a one-cartridge repair.
