Five of the seven cabinets on this shelf are wood products, and a wood panel in a bathroom swells permanently once water reaches a cut edge.
This one is metal, and so are the shelves — which matters separately, because a wood shelf loaded with bottles sags and stays sagged. DICTAC, the only listing here that publishes a shelf load, rates its MDF shelves at 22 lb (10 kg). Metal shelves do not need the figure.
The body is also described as thickened and reinforced against warping, which is the right concern for a shallow box 30 inches tall.
It can be turned round
This is the feature nothing else on this shelf has.
The mirror cabinet can be flipped and reversely installed.
A medicine cabinet has a hinge side, and in a real bathroom that side is decided by a shower screen, a window reveal, or the only stud within reach.
CHOEZON and Kohler let you choose which side the door hinges. This lets you turn the whole box around.
On an awkward wall that is the difference between a cabinet that opens properly and one you edge past every morning.
A hundred and twenty-four millimeters
The shallowest cabinet on this shelf — just under five inches — where the DICTAC is 5.98 in (152 mm).
Shallow is a trade. It will not take a tall bottle standing up. It also projects least over a sink you lean across, and at 30 inches tall that is where your head goes.
And magnetically damped hinges
Silent close, with magnetic damping rather than a spring or an oil cylinder.
Two other cabinets here publish soft-close. This is the only one that says how.
Now the money
Three point one square inches of mirrored front per dollar. The least on this shelf, and under a third of the fifty-dollar VASAGLE’s 10.1.
Twenty-four by thirty inches for $229.99, where $114.99 buys thirty-four and a half inches of Tangkula.
What the difference buys is a cabinet that is not a consumable. In a bathroom that genuinely steams — an inside bathroom with poor extraction, a cabinet above a bath — a wood cabinet has a life and this does not.
Two things to ask about
The metal is not named. “High quality metal”, “waterproof”, “rust-proof” — but no alloy and no surface treatment. Kohler, $85.02 cheaper, publishes anodized aluminum and says the anodizing resists rust and chips, which is specific and checkable. Painted steel, aluminum and stainless steel behave very differently over ten bathroom years.
And “99% true to life reflection accuracy” is not a measurement. There is no standard quantity called reflection accuracy. Distortion free is a meaningful claim about flatness; the percentage attached to it is not.
One practical omission: like the Tangkula, this offers recessed mounting and supplies no side mirror kit, so surface-mounted the plain box sides are on show. Kohler includes one.
