Voolan 12 in square rain shower head review

A 12-inch square rain head in 304 stainless steel at 1.8 gpm, with 144 silicone jets and a brass swivel ball — the largest face on this shelf for about $34.

What the listing puts in writing

  • Oversize face to cover the whole body; ultra-thin design with air intake to increase pressure
  • Solid all-metal 304 stainless steel; soft rubber gasket against leaks
  • 144 soft silicone jets against limescale
  • Fits standard wall or ceiling arms without tools; brass swivel ball joint
  • 1.8 gpm; mini wrench, extra filters and a flow restrictor in the box (spec table)

Size against pressure

A rain head trades pressure for coverage. 12 inches square is the largest face on this shelf, fed by the same 1.8 gpm as the 6-inch SparkPod. On good pressure it drenches; on weak pressure it drizzles. Know your supply before choosing the size.

Metal, at a plastic price

304 stainless steel, at about $34: on this shelf, the plastic SparkPod costs about the same, and the solid-metal HammerHead more than twice as much.

What is not stated

A warranty term, a thread size and a face thickness. And this listing sells several sizes and finishes; the price here is for the 12-inch brushed nickel version.

Strengths, and the catches

Strengths

  • A 12-inch face in 304 stainless steel, at about the price of the 6-inch plastic SparkPod
  • 1.8 gpm in the model number itself, so the flow is not in doubt
  • A brass swivel ball to angle the head, and filters and a wrench in the box

Compromises

  • A 12-inch face spreads 1.8 gpm thin: on weak pressure the rain will feel light
  • No warranty term and no thread size stated
  • A wall arm will angle a square head; it is best on a ceiling arm or a long extension

The questions we get

Will a 12-inch head feel weak?

On low pressure, it can. The same 1.8 gallons a minute spread over a 12-inch face falls as lighter rain than over a 6-inch one. Voolan claims air intake to raise pressure; with a weak supply, the smaller SparkPod or the HammerHead will feel stronger.

Wall or ceiling?

Both are listed. On a standard wall arm, the head points forward at an angle and a square face shows it. A ceiling arm, or an extension like the one sold with the Hibbent on this shelf, lets it hang level.

Is stainless better than plastic?

It does not crack at the thread and holds its finish longer in a hot, wet room. On a large flat face it also stays flat. Voolan states 304 stainless; the SparkPod is ABS.
