A warranty on everything. Fluidmaster is the only maker on the flush-valve shelf that warrants all of its products there, including ten years on the 5403 flapper — the longest warranty on the shelf, on the cheapest kind of part in a toilet.
The seal material and what attacks it. The 5403 states a silicone seal resisting chlorine and hard water, which is the failure that makes a toilet run.
Sizes. 2 inches and 3 inches, stated, which is the measurement that decides whether a repair fits.
The 830V excludes one-piece toilets, like the Danco converter on the same shelf, without suggesting what a one-piece owner should buy instead.
Against Korky’s 3-inch flapper at about $12, the 5403 costs about five dollars more and buys the warranty, the dial and the hard-water claim. Against Kohler’s and Mansfield’s model-specific valves, Fluidmaster’s are universal — measure the opening first.
