The clearest sentence on this shelf
Package Includes: 1 piece sink button, pop up plug bolt not include.
Six listings here sell three different things, and this is the only one that spells out what is not in the box.
Complete assemblies: Kraus $34.95, Kohler $99.99.
Caps only: this, and the FASTROHY at $9.66 for two.
Bolts only: UXELY $7.79, ALI2 $9.99 for two.
A click-clack drain fails in one half or the other. Push the cap: if it still latches but looks ruined, you want a cap. If it has stopped latching, you want a bolt.
They unscrew from each other at the M8 thread — which this listing also names, so a Tong Gu cap goes straight onto a UXELY or ALI2 bolt.
Thirty-six to thirty-eight millimeters
The only drain hole figure on this shelf, and the number that answers the real question in one step.
A cap has to cover the outlet and sit on the rim of the drain body. Thirty-six to thirty-eight millimeters is the common bathroom sink drilling, and a 2.60 in (66 mm) cap over it leaves a sensible overlap all round.
If your sink is drilled larger — and some vessel sinks are 1.77 in (45 mm) or more — a 2.60 in (66 mm) cap can end up sitting inside the hole rather than across it, which is not a seal at all.
No other listing here publishes the hole it is made for. FASTROHY publishes a cap diameter and a screw hole and tells you to measure; this publishes the thing you would be measuring against.
Brass, which is what you are paying for
$7.99 for one brass cap. The FASTROHY pack is $9.66 for two in zinc alloy — $4.83 each.
Zinc alloy plates beautifully and pits in standing water. Because chrome is a plating rather than the metal itself, a pit lifts the chrome around it, and one small blemish becomes a spreading gray patch.
Brass corrodes far more slowly and does not undermine its own finish the same way.
So the honest division: for a guest bathroom nobody looks at, buy the zinc pair and fit the second one in a few years. For the sink you use every morning, buy the brass.
And sixty-six millimeters is the standard
Tong Gu publishes 2.60 in (66 mm). The Kraus cap is 2 5/8 inches, which is 66.7. FASTROHY says 66 in its title and 65 in its bullets.
So anything between 65 and 67 is the click-clack norm. Measure the old cap across the top; if it is nothing like that, none of the caps on this shelf is the part.
What is not published
No height, which is the one figure that would let you match this cap to an existing bolt with certainty. The UXELY bolt here publishes three heights; neither cap publishes one.
No warranty. On this shelf, only the Kraus, at one year, publishes one.
And the five bullets and the description are the same five sentences, twice.
